The song titles on the New Age best-seller ENCHANTED SPIRITS--"Aethera Et Terra", "Agnus Dei", and "Sancta Maria", for example--hint at the
mystical, mediaeval atmospheres Magna Canta creates in their music.
Brooding, resonant chants and images of dungeons and cathedrals with
high vaulted ceilings underlie the music. But the primary musical
influence is electronic dance, with synthesizer and programmed
drumbeats lending a chugging disco feel to much of the album.
The
combination is unusual and intriguing. At times the mix is hypnotic, as
on the down-tempo "Recordare", at others it recalls upbeat '80s New
Wave, as on "Gregoria". For listeners who have longed to hear Gregorian
music's gothic overtones mixed with the sprightly beats of contemporary
techno, ENCHANTED SPIRITS should fit the bill nicely
